The Incarcerated and Released Women's Support Network - Greece

Overview:

The fundamental ethos of the Network centres around fostering a sense of solidarity, emphasising equality over charity, for individuals within this vulnerable population group.  Assistance provided by the Network includes material aid (financial, clothing, food, household items), educational initiatives (health and legal support education programs, courses, seminars, workshops), counselling (psychosocial support, connecting with support networks), and the provision of legal services.

Learning Objectives:

The main lessons from the Support network include the importance of:
● imparting a deeper understanding and commitment to the principles of solidarity and equality
● enabling women to confront the specific adversities that have burdened them, caused distress, and led to dysfunction at individual, familial, professional, and societal levels, often resulting in marginalisation and social exclusion
● creating opportunities and resources for the continued development of personal strengths, as well as the exploration of possibilities offered by the social and natural environment. This includes fostering social integration and taking actions to prevent stigmatisation and social marginalisation.
● understanding and participating in efforts to provide financial aid, clothing, food, and household items to incarcerated and released women.
● developing educational initiatives on topics related to health and legal support, including the creation of courses, seminars, and workshops.
● providing psychosocial support, facilitating contact and involvement of women with support networks, and contributing to their overall well-being.
● gaining knowledge and understanding of legal services.
